The Pride of Africa Opening Concert sets the tone for every event that follows throughout October. It will include our media partners, key mainstream media, influencer partners, sponsors and key players who were instrumental in making Pride of Africa a possibility. Together, we’ll share our vision for the new platform in a light and fun-loving environment.
Our mission is to transcend boundaries, and to bring this to life we’re hosting a first-of-its-kind fashion show. This event will feature a variety of influential designers from the community showcasing their jaw-dropping looks inspired by our purpose: to be proudly African and authentically YOU.
Building on last year’s successful event, we will again host the Pride of Africa Lifestyle Conference. The event will see experts facilitate key discussions around the relevance of Pride, gender identity and sexual orientation, with an authentic and positive message for everyone.
In our community we have dozens of unsung heroes who donate their time, energy and money to empower and enrich the lives of every LGBTQ+ME person on the continent. The Pride of Africa Awards will celebrate these incredible people and recognise the phenomenal work they’ve done to uplift the community.
Pride of Africa Month would not be complete without a little glitz and glamour. Join us for a fun morning with none other than Brooklyn Hytes, one of the most popular Drag Queens to strut down the runway on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Early birds will get the opportunity of a meet-and-greet with the Queen of the North before she joins us as the Grand Marshall of this year’s Johannesburg Pride Parade and Festival.
Johannesburg Pride is an open invitation for all to come and take a stride for Pride. Every year, thousands gather as we march through the streets of JHB in a stand for self-acceptance and legal rights, but also in celebration of our pride. The event is open to everyone who wants to attend, and is free of charge.
